  • Game: Chunky Bowling
  • Developer: Andrew Fay Matseas (afaymats)
  • Playtester: Domenic Calitri
  • Play Sessions: 1 session for about 1 hour
  • Positive:
    • Switching the camera angles is a cool aspect
    • Switching between random bowling and standard bowling adds a fair amount of challenge
    • Using “R” to reset the pins makes it a bit easier to restart the game
  • Suggestions:
    • Maybe have a camera that follows the ball when it spawns (if possible)
    • Add a score card and have the pins reset after each bowling set
    • Make the pins a bit rounder to add a sweet spot
    • Have the character stop behind the line rather than on the line (Make the “> xRange” a bit lower)
  • Major Issues: N/A

I have played through the game 5 times, around 3 minutes long for each. One thing I liked about the game is how they had the option to randomize where the pins are placed instead of it just being the same every time, it added a fun element to the game. Another thing I think worked well was the option to change the camera position. It was something I did not expect and is a great feature that could encourage people to make highlights of the game.

One suggestion I think would improve the game is maybe having different bowling balls spawn out of their hand instead of always having the same one, it would be a little surprising. Another suggestion I would make is having the bowling pins have a bit more physics. I notice when I knock a pin down and it hits another bowling pin there's a chance it won’t fall down when it should.

Two major issues that I spotted were during class when the teacher was playtesting. The first was the ball just kind of went all over the place for him, I am unsure of how he was able to make that happen but it is a bug. The second thing was when one of the pins accidentally went back up and upside down when it should have still stayed down. Personally though no issues occurred while I was playtesting.

Positive: This is a really fun idea that I never would have had. Your use of the basic shapes is great to make the scene feel like a bowling alley. The second camera is a nice addition to the game. I like that you stopped players being able to just spam the bowling balls, it gives it a more realistic feeling.

Suggestions: One thing that could improve the game is to make the random bowling more random. Adding pins, making them different sizes, and having them spawn closer to the player would give it a more random experience. Possibly adding a third camera directly above the pins, looking down on them would give players a better view of the pins, allowing them to have a better view of what pins they need to knock over, along with a better view of the random mode.

Major Issues: There were no major issues that I found, and I never got that glitch found in class when the player threw the ball while moving forward that threw everything around.
